General Evacuation
When the alarm is sounded:
- Manager contacts emergency services - Dial 111
- If possible, turn off all heating equipment (but not the building power supply). Personal risk must be avoided in attempting to do this.
- Leave all lights ON.
- Stop whatever is being done and leave the building without delay, in an orderly manner through one of the exits.
- Take the personnel list and health and safety folder with you.
- If possible, shut all doors upon leaving.
- If there is smoke in the building, keep near the floor.
Note: Ensure any disabled persons are also assisted from the building.
Employees must:
- Move immediately towards an exit and not go anywhere else in the building.
- Walk, not run.
- Assist other persons to leave the premises.
- Maintain silence and remain calm.
- Quickly move away from the building entrance to the assembly areas so that a roll call can be made.
- Not hinder the Fire Service. If they require help they will ask.
- Not return to the building until the “all clear” signal is given by the person in charge.
Fire Wardens will check that their area is evacuated (using the Evacuation Checklist) and confirm this with the designated Chief Fire Warden (if applicable). All toilets will be checked.
All employees must, in every way, fully co-operate with Fire Wardens. It is their job to work for the safety of all.
